Proposition 90
Under Proposition 90, California property owners
who are 55 years and older may be able to transfer the assessed value of
their principle residence sold in one county to a new home in another,
participating county. Here's how
it works...
The purchaser or spouse must be 55 years
of age AND...
The replacement home must be equal or
less than the value of the home sold, AND...
The replacement home must be either
in the same county or another participating county.
Participating Counties as of June 1996:
Alameda
Kern
Los Angeles
Marin
Modoc
Monterey
Orange
San Diego
San Mateo
Santa Clara
Ventura
If you are thinking of moving, contact the
county assessor's office in the county you are moving to and ask for the
most recent information on Proposition 90. Some counties have stopped participating
since this was written.
